Today, on April 28, we honor Workers Memorial Day — a day dedicated to remembering those who have lost their lives at work and to recommitting ourselves to creating safer workplaces.

This day holds special meaning: On April 28, 1971, the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSH Act) officially went into effect, leading to the creation of OSHA — a monumental shift in protecting American workers.

Before the OSH Act, U.S. workplaces were significantly more dangerous. In 1970, approximately 14,000 workers were killed on the job (U.S. Department of Labor). Today, thanks to decades of effort, workplace fatalities have dropped to around 5,486 deaths in 2022 (Bureau of Labor Statistics) — despite a workforce that has doubled in size!
That’s progress worth celebrating.

BUT… our work is not finished.

⚡ Culture Over Compliance: The Future of Safety ⚡

Policies and programs laid a strong foundation, but the next evolution of workplace safety will be driven by culture — not just compliance.

Here’s why culture matters:
• Companies with strong safety cultures experience up to 50% fewer accidents than those without (National Safety Council).
• Organizations with highly engaged employees see 70% fewer safety incidents (Gallup, 2017).
• A positive safety culture leads to higher morale, productivity, and profitability — it’s a win-win!

When employees believe safety is a shared value, not just a rule, behavior changes naturally — and that’s how we achieve true, lasting results.
